Danny Butler a 15 year old GB Junior Olympic Wrestler living in Stapleton, Bristol, has been awarded a grant of £250 to help with coaching, travel, subsistence and accommodation costs in his chosen sport; the result of an exciting new partnership between the Rotary Club of Fishponds and Downend and SportsAid South West, the Charity for sport.

There are many local young sportsperson, both able and disabled, who have talent and potential to make it to the top of their sport but who all too often face crippling financial costs. Rotary, nationally, is always seeking to support the celebration of achievements by young people and considers this to be an excellent way for rotary Clubs to assist talented young sportsmen and women from their locality to fulfill their dreams.

The Rotary Club of fishponds and Downend and SportsAid South West have teamed up to help reduce the strain placed on Danny. SportsAid South West in association with his sport's governing body, the British Wrestling Association, has identified him as a worthy recipient, whilst the Rotary Club of Fishponds and Downend has kindly supported the award.

SportsAid South West is a Charity working to help talented young sportspersons between the ages of 11 and 18, both abled and disabled, compete at the highest levels in their chosen sports. Awards are given to competitors who are currently ranked in the top 10 nationally of their sport or are regular members of National Age Group squads. Danny is a member of the GB Olympic Wrestling Junior Team and is ranked number 1 in the British Cadet category. he was placed 1st in the Belgium International at Cadet level in 2002.

A cheque for £250 was awarded to Danny by the President of the Rotary Club of Fishponds and Downend, Peter Taylor on Thursday 16th January at the Clubs regular meeting venue, The Huntsman Inn, Downend, Bristol.

All of the Club wish Danny well in his chosen sport and will be following his progress closely.
